Vela Transport LLC is a long established, family owned transportation company, located in Grand Rapids, MI. We use Semi Trucks to move freight all across the US.

Dispatchers will use load boards and make contacts at other companies to find loads for our drivers and will negotiate rates that are satisfactory to both the company and driver. The individual chosen for this position will control and monitor the movement of freight throughout the US. You will ensure freight is delivered safely, efficiently, and on time, be in constant communication with our drivers, work to resolve questions or issues that arise, create and maintain a positive environment, and serve our company and customer needs.

The best candidate for this position will have the following qualifications.

Main Qualifications

• Excellent English proficiency. Highly proficient in both spoken and written English.

• Must understand English slang and be able to converse with individuals who speak English poorly, but at the same time communicate professionally with business partners via email and phone.

• Able to be on call 24/7. You will not need to work after hours. However, sometimes you must be able to answer work-related texts and phone calls from drivers that can not wait till the next day.

• You should be able to handle stress well and keep calm and professional at all times, even if the other party is not.

• Will be social and enjoy talking to people. You will build and maintain a professional relationship with your drivers and try to make new connections with brokers and business partners.

Computer Skills

• Able to troubleshoot and resolve minor issues by themselves.

• Experience with software commonly used in an office environment, such as spreadsheets, docs, PDF editors, email, etc.

• Able to learn new software quickly. We use proprietary software to manage many business operations.

Preferred Qualities

• Knowledge of American states, highways, and cities.

• A good working phone with a quality data plan.

• Previous experience dispatching semi trucks in the US and using load boards such as DAT.

• Reliable transportation to and from work.
